1st ECCO Policy Workshop on Multidisciplinary Cancer Care.

University Foundation Room Félicien Cattier Rue d'Egmont 11 1000 Brussels, Belgium,31st October 2018

Today we present a topic that currently affects all kinds of people regardless of gender and age, we are talking about Cancer, and the importance of good treatment and the application of good policies so that the result is the patient's good health.

The 31st October took place the ‘’1st ECCO Policy Workshop on Multidisciplinary Cancer Care’’ in the University Foundation of Brussels, this topic was treated from a professional, technical and natural point of view.

The doctor-patient relationship is not as close as it could be. It is necessary that the main objective in any treatment is the patient, the centre of any interest, in which, every doctor or professional that surrounds him/her cooperates in a united way and investing in the best technologies to achieve the same purpose: Healing the patient in a close way. For the point of view of the patient integrated care is the only natural solution, because a single, consistent and well-coordinated patient pathway throughout the course and trajectory of the disease and care. If this idea is not met, something is being done wrong and must be rectified, new measures or new systems must be applied and encourage cooperation in the hospital setting.

During the conference it was announced that by applying the current best practices and technology, some 120.000 lives could be saved by year. Taking into account this large number, these new policies must be carried out to save all these lives because only the integration and multidisciplinary cab ensure smooth and seamless transitions when patients are moving between levels and sectors of health care.

During the presentation were highlighted also the action of the European Union and the need for organised and consistent approach to cancer screening at EU level and updates of existing guidelines for cancer screening. We need also a harmonised quality assurance and evidence based strategies for early detection and management for patients with cancer.
